The device has UTP port and BNC port, and is useful for connecting a small workgroup to a main network. It inexpensively connects a small cluster of stations on the coaxial cable to a 10BASE-T hub, saving the cost of installing a repeater. Collision detection and full diagnostic LEDs are provided.
While a transceiver invariably attaches a host to a network segment through an AUI interface, this device allows a host to attach through either a UTP or BNC interface. A 10BASE-T hub not equipped with any BNC port may also connect to a thin coaxial backbone via this device.
